war thunder forum leaks classified “typhoon” fighter jet documents

Polygon reported on December 24th that a War Thunder player uploaded classified documents pertaining to the European “Typhoon” fighter jet to the game’s forum in an attempt to win an online argument. This isn’t the first time sensitive information has been leaked on the War Thunder forum.

The leak stemmed from a heated debate among players concerning the performance of two different radar systems equipped on the Typhoon fighter. One player, in an effort to prove their point, uploaded classified documents.

Despite prior warnings, the user proceeded to share files comparing the Captor-M mechanically scanned array radar and the Captor-E active electronically scanned array radar, highlighting the significant performance improvements of the latter. After verification with the Italian Ministry of Defence, War Thunder forum moderators identified the documents as classified and swiftly removed the material, subsequently banning the user’s account.

In a statement, a War Thunder community manager urged users: “Please do not under any circumstances post, use, or share (classified) material unless you are 100% certain that the material is legally declassified and safe for public use. We will never process or use such (material), and doing so only harms any potential future changes. Don’t do it.”

The $120 million Typhoon fighter jet, a collaborative effort between the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, is a twin-engine, delta-wing, canard-type aircraft that entered service in 2003.
